HISTORY
est. 1841
Est. 1841 in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, Chanteloup farm is an exciting micro-farm on the grounds of the 31 acre Chanteloup estate built by Count Joseph Marie Gabriel St. Xavier, de Choiseul, French Consul to Charleston and Savannah in 1841 in the historic town of Flat Rock.
By the late 19th century the grounds of the property were landscaped to reflect the grandeur of the petite chateau which was commissioned to Fredrick Law Olmsted who designed well known properties and parks such as the grounds at the Biltmore, Asheville, NC and Central Park, New York, NY.
The property includes over four acres of farming fields and manicured cutting gardens. In the tradition of the medieval monasteries and chateaux’s of France the grounds include a jardin potager or kitchen garden which is cultivated to reflect its use historically with a diversity of produce of the season.
Chanetloup farm is proud to continue its tradition of sustainable farming to provide naturally grown vegetables, herbs, fruits and honey to the growing “organic” or naturally grown produce demand from local patrons.
